Millerton Community Cinema Arts Inc. (MCCA) dba The Moviehouse is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization and cinema that has been celebrating film and bringing the community together since 1978. Through its home at the historic Moviehouse in Millerton, NY, MCCA brings people together 365 days a year in a shared space to experience film, theater, unique events, and community collaborations in a way that only independent cinemas can do. Our mission extends to a wide range of educational and community initiatives in partnership with local schools and community groups, including afterschool filmmaking programs and other special events.
MCCA is dedicated to ensuring that the historic Moviehouse in Millerton, NY continues as a primary cultural, artistic, educational, and social hub, and economic anchor of the tri-state (NY, CT, MA) area. The Moviehouse is located in the heart of the Main Street Historic District in Millerton, NY, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The property was built in 1905 as a grange hall, and is distinguished by its third-story clock tower. The building has served as a community movie theatre since 1915. It was extensively renovated in 1978 and relaunched as an arthouse movie theater, and has continuously operated as such with the exception of a brief closing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Moviehouse reopened in 2021 with a renovated lounge, new elevator, and updated ADA seating, and has been a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization since February 2022.
